Paalappam

Palappam is usually served with a range of side dishes like vegetable stew or chicken stew, sweetened coconut milk, Kerala egg curryegg roast, korma, kadala curry etc.

Do try this delicious Palappam for your breakfast.

Ingredients

  • Raw rice (white) – 3 cups
  • Cooked rice – 2 cups
  • Grated coconut – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 3 tbsp
  • Yeast – 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Thick coconut milk - 1 cup
  • Luke Warm Water - 1/4 cup

Method

Step 1

Soak rice in water for a minimum of 5 hours.

Step 2

Grind raw rice, cooked rice and grated coconut to a smooth paste with thick coconut milk. In the luke warm water add yeast and dissolve it well. Add this yeast, salt and sugar to the batter and mix well.

Step 3

Cover it and keep aside for fermentation for 6 hours.

Step 4

Heat a non-stick pan (appachatty) and pour 1 ladle full of batter, lift the pan and rotate it to spread the batter, cover and cook over medium heat .
